Description

CVE-2026-109976 is a medium severity vulnerability in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 involving an out-of-bounds write in the clevis PKCS#11 pin component. The clevis-pkcs11-afunix-socket-unlock daemon crashes when an AF_UNIX client connects to the data socket without a bound address due to an integer underflow in getpeername result handling. This crash causes a denial of service that prevents LUKS disk decryption from completing during system boot.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability affects the clevis PKCS#11 pin implementation in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10. Specifically, the clevis-pkcs11-afunix-socket-unlock daemon experiences an integer underflow when processing the getpeername result if an AF_UNIX client connects to the data socket without a bound address. This leads to a crash of the daemon, resulting in a denial of service condition that blocks LUKS disk decryption during boot.

Potential Impact

The primary impact is a denial of service that prevents LUKS disk decryption from completing during system boot, potentially rendering the system unbootable until the issue is resolved. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity reported.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the Red Hat advisory at https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-109976 for current remediation guidance. No vendor-provided patch or workaround information is included in the input data.
