Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-110039 describes an incorrect authorization vulnerability (CWE-863) in the Smush WordPress plugin prior to version 4.3.4. The flaw permits an administrator of a single site within a multisite WordPress network to change a network-wide access setting, a privilege that should be limited to network administrators. This could lead to unauthorized configuration changes affecting the entire multisite network.

Potential Impact

An attacker with administrator privileges on a single site in a multisite WordPress environment can escalate their control by modifying network-wide settings. This could potentially disrupt or alter the configuration of the entire multisite network, impacting all sites under that network.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade the Smush plugin to version 4.3.4 or later, where this authorization issue has been fixed. No other mitigation steps are indicated.
