Technical Analysis
WorkFlow-Engine versions up to 9.6.11 contain a missing authorization vulnerability that permits authenticated users with low privileges to manipulate workflow tasks of other users. By providing a known taskId to the /vue/buttonOperation endpoints (complete, completeTask, or reAssign handlers), attackers can approve or reassign tasks they should not control. This bypasses intended access controls on workflow task operations.
Potential Impact
An attacker with low privileges can bypass authorization controls to complete or reassign workflow tasks of other users. This could lead to unauthorized approvals or workflow manipulations, potentially disrupting business processes or causing improper task handling. No evidence of active exploitation is reported.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict access to the affected endpoints and monitor for suspicious task operations. Avoid sharing task identifiers with untrusted users.
