CVE-2026-110290: CWE-79 Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting') in ajay WebberZone Top 10 — Popular Posts
Description
The WebberZone Top 10 — Popular Posts plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'other_attributes (parsed to inject instance_id) + undeclared is_widget' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 4.5.2 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with contributor-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. The exploit requires setting the undeclared is_widget flag to '1' via block JSON, which activates the vulnerable code path that concatenates the attacker-controlled instance_id value into an unescaped HTML class attribute.

Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-110290 is a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability in the WebberZone Top 10 — Popular Posts WordPress plugin affecting all versions up to and including 4.5.2. The issue stems from improper neutralization of input during web page generation (CWE-79). Specifically, the vulnerability is triggered when an authenticated user with contributor or higher privileges sets the undeclared 'is_widget' flag to '1' via block JSON, activating a code path that concatenates an attacker-controlled 'instance_id' value into an unescaped HTML class attribute. This allows injection of arbitrary web scripts that execute in the context of any user viewing the injected page.
Potential Impact
An attacker with contributor-level access or higher can inject persistent malicious scripts into pages generated by the plugin. These scripts execute in the browsers of users who access the affected pages, potentially leading to session hijacking, privilege escalation, or other client-side impacts. The vulnerability does not affect availability but compromises confidentiality and integrity of user sessions and data.
Mitigation Recommendations
No official patch or fix is currently documented for this vulnerability. Users should monitor the vendor's advisory channels for updates. Until a fix is available, restrict contributor-level access to trusted users only and consider disabling or removing the WebberZone Top 10 — Popular Posts plugin if possible. Avoid enabling the 'is_widget' flag in block JSON inputs. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance.
