Technical Analysis

The WPZOOM Portfolio Lite plugin for WordPress prior to version 1.4.34 does not verify whether a user has permission to edit a post before allowing changes to the post's type and order. This lack of authorization checking (CWE-639) enables users with the contributor role or higher to convert posts and pages owned by other users into portfolio items. Such unauthorized modifications can remove content from its original context and URLs, affecting site content integrity.

Potential Impact

Users with contributor or higher roles can manipulate posts they do not own by converting them into portfolio items, which removes them from their original listings and URLs. This could lead to content being hidden or misplaced, causing disruption in content presentation and potential confusion for site visitors. There is no indication of data disclosure or privilege escalation beyond the described content manipulation.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade WPZOOM Portfolio Lite to version 1.4.34 or later, where this authorization bypass vulnerability has been fixed. No other mitigation steps are indicated.
