Technical Analysis

The WP User Manager WordPress plugin before version 2.9.26 fails to maintain paid-registration capability restrictions once the payment gateway is disconnected. Despite the disconnection, a published paid registration form continues to assign its configured privileged role. This flaw enables unauthenticated users to register and immediately gain an administrator-equivalent role without completing the intended payment process, representing an improper privilege management issue classified under CWE-269.

Potential Impact

Unauthenticated users can bypass payment requirements and gain privileged administrator-equivalent roles, potentially allowing unauthorized access and control over the WordPress site. This could lead to full site compromise depending on the privileges assigned.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade WP User Manager to version 2.9.26 or later, where this issue is fixed. No other mitigation or workaround is indicated. Patch status is confirmed by the version range affected and the fixed version stated.
