Published: 10/14/2026 (10/14/2026, 14:16:40 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: syoyo
Product: tinyexr

Description

Tinyexr through 3.2.0 contains a heap out-of-bounds read vulnerability in ParseEXRMultipartHeaderFromMemory() that allows attackers to read beyond buffers due to a stale remaining-size value. Attackers can supply a crafted multi-part EXR file whose later part headers bypass ReadAttribute() bounds checks, crashing applications or leaking adjacent heap memory into attribute values.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-110597 is a heap out-of-bounds read vulnerability in syoyo's Tinyexr library through version 3.2.0. The issue exists in the ParseEXRMultipartHeaderFromMemory() function, where a stale remaining-size value allows attackers to supply a specially crafted multi-part EXR file. This crafted file can cause later part headers to bypass the ReadAttribute() bounds checks, resulting in reading beyond allocated buffers. The impact includes application crashes or leaking adjacent heap memory into attribute values.

Potential Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability can lead to application crashes or disclosure of adjacent heap memory contents. This could potentially expose sensitive information stored in memory. The CVSS 4.0 score is 6.9 (medium severity), indicating a moderate risk primarily due to local attack vector and user interaction requirements.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or patch link is provided in the available data. Users should monitor the vendor's announcements for updates and avoid processing untrusted multi-part EXR files until a fix is available.
