Published: 10/14/2026 (10/14/2026, 14:16:43 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: kyz
Product: libmspack

Description

libmspack through 0.11alpha contains an uninitialized pointer free vulnerability in kwajd_open() in mspack/kwajd.c that frees unzeroed filename and extra pointers on header read errors. Attackers can supply a truncated, empty, or wrong-signature KWAJ file to crash the process or obtain an arbitrary-free memory corruption primitive.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in libmspack (<=0.11alpha) is due to an uninitialized pointer free in the kwajd_open() function located in mspack/kwajd.c. When the function encounters header read errors, it frees filename and extra pointers that have not been zeroed, leading to use-after-free or arbitrary free conditions. Attackers can exploit this by providing truncated, empty, or incorrectly signed KWAJ archive files, potentially causing a crash or enabling memory corruption primitives.

Potential Impact

Exploitation can lead to denial of service via process crashes or potentially arbitrary memory corruption, which may be leveraged for further attacks. The CVSS 4.0 score is 5.8 (medium), reflecting local attack vector with low complexity, requiring user interaction, and no privileges needed.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or patch links are provided in the available data. Users should monitor vendor communications for updates and avoid processing untrusted KWAJ files until a fix is available.
