Published: 10/14/2026 (10/14/2026, 14:17:07 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: danday74
Product: git-diff

Description

git-diff before 2.0.7 contains an OS command injection vulnerability that allows attackers to execute shell commands by supplying crafted strings to the gitDiff API. Attackers who control a diffed document string can embed $(cmd) or backtick substitutions that shelljs.exec evaluates, running commands with Node.js process privileges.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-110634 is an OS command injection vulnerability in danday74's git-diff prior to version 2.0.7. The issue occurs when attackers supply specially crafted strings containing shell command substitutions such as $(cmd) or backticks to the gitDiff API. These inputs are evaluated by shelljs.exec, which executes the embedded commands with the privileges of the Node.js process running git-diff. This allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands on the host system.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary shell commands on the system running git-diff with Node.js process privileges. This can lead to full system compromise depending on the privileges of the Node.js process. The vulnerability is remotely exploitable without user interaction and requires no privileges, making it highly severe.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade git-diff to version 2.0.7 or later, where this OS command injection vulnerability has been fixed. Patch status is confirmed by the versioning information indicating that versions before 2.0.7 are affected and 2.0.7 is the fixed version. No other mitigation or workaround is indicated.
