Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in beganovich snappdf (versions >=1.1.0 <6.1.0) is an OS command injection on Windows platforms. Attackers can manipulate the rendered URL by including cmd.exe metacharacters such as '&' in the setUrl() value. These characters are passed without proper escaping to the PHP exec() function via executeOnWindows(), enabling arbitrary command execution under the PHP process context.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary OS commands on the Windows host running the vulnerable snappdf version. This can lead to full compromise of the PHP process privileges, potentially allowing data theft, system manipulation, or further attacks. The CVSS 4.0 score of 9.2 indicates critical impact with high attack vector and complexity.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, avoid using vulnerable versions or restrict access to the affected functionality to trusted users only.
