Product: libzvbi

Description

CVE-2026-110654 is an out-of-bounds write vulnerability in libzvbi version 0.2.45 and earlier. It occurs in the Teletext decoder component when processing unvalidated DRCS pixel-mode values in X/28/3 packets. An attacker can craft a Teletext stream that causes a buffer overflow in the convert_drcs function, potentially crashing the application.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability exists in libzvbi through version 0.2.45 within the Teletext decoder. Specifically, it arises from an out-of-bounds write triggered by unvalidated DRCS pixel-mode values in X/28/3 packets. By sending a specially crafted Teletext stream with every slot set to DRCS_MODE_6_5_4, the convert_drcs function overflows the chars[48][60] buffer, leading to memory corruption and application crash.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation can cause memory corruption and crash the affected application. The CVSS 4.0 base score is 6.9 (medium severity), indicating a significant but not critical impact. There is no indication of privilege escalation or remote code execution. The attack requires local vector (AV:L) and user interaction (UI:P).

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or patch links are provided in the available data. Until a patch is available, avoid processing untrusted Teletext streams with libzvbi or apply application-level mitigations to restrict or sanitize input.
