Published: 10/14/2026 (10/14/2026, 15:01:25 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: serge1
Product: ELFIO

Description

CVE-2026-110659 is a NULL pointer dereference vulnerability in ELFIO versions up to 3.12. It occurs in the relocation_section_accessor get_entry() function when processing crafted ELF files with a malformed SHT_REL or SHT_RELA section containing a dangling sh_link index. This causes a NULL pointer dereference leading to application crashes and denial of service.

Technical Analysis

ELFIO through version 3.12 contains a NULL pointer dereference vulnerability in the relocation_section_accessor get_entry() function. The flaw arises when an attacker supplies a crafted ELF file whose relocation section (SHT_REL or SHT_RELA) has an invalid sh_link index. This causes the find_hash_section() function to dereference a NULL pointer, resulting in a denial of service by crashing the affected application.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation causes a denial of service by crashing applications that use ELFIO to process crafted ELF files with malformed relocation sections. There is no indication of privilege escalation, code execution, or data disclosure.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. In the absence of an official fix, avoid processing untrusted ELF files or implement input validation to detect malformed relocation sections.
