Published: 10/14/2026 (10/14/2026, 15:01:29 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Artifex Software
Product: MuJS

Description

MuJS versions 1.3.6 through 1.3.8 contain a heap out-of-bounds read and write vulnerability in the Array.prototype.sort function. This flaw allows an attacker to corrupt memory by inflating the length of a dense array and then invoking the sort method, leading to out-of-bounds access and potential process crashes.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-110715 is a heap out-of-bounds read and write vulnerability in Artifex Software's MuJS JavaScript engine versions 1.3.6 up to but not including 1.3.9. The issue occurs in the Array.prototype.sort implementation where an attacker-supplied JavaScript enlarges a dense array's length and calls sort. This triggers the Ap_sort_cmp and Ap_sort_swap functions to access memory slots beyond the allocated buffer, causing memory corruption and process crashes.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation can lead to memory corruption and application crashes. The vulnerability requires local access (AV:L) and user interaction (UI:P), with low attack complexity (AC:L) and no privileges required (PR:N). There is no indication of remote exploitation or code execution. The overall impact is medium severity with potential denial of service due to crashes.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, avoid processing untrusted JavaScript that manipulates array lengths and calls sort in affected MuJS versions.
