Published: 10/16/2026 (10/16/2026, 22:06:03 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5

Description

Text::CSV_XS versions before 1.65 for Perl contain a vulnerability where the fragment function allocates resources without limits or throttling. Specifically, it expands RFC 7111 selectors into large arrays without clamping the size, allowing memory exhaustion. This can cause the process to terminate with an out-of-memory error that cannot be caught by eval.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in Text::CSV_XS (CVE-2026-110752) arises from the fragment function's handling of RFC 7111 selectors such as row= or col=. The function expands these selectors into arrays with one element per selected index before reading any data, but it does not limit the size of these arrays. For example, a selector like row=1-400000000 on a small file causes allocation of 400 million elements, leading to memory exhaustion. This flaw allows an attacker to supply crafted fragment selectors that cause the application to consume excessive memory and crash.

Potential Impact

An attacker can cause a denial of service by exhausting the application's memory, resulting in process termination with an out-of-memory error. This error cannot be caught or handled by eval, potentially leading to application instability or downtime.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official patch or fix is currently confirmed. Users should avoid passing untrusted or user-supplied fragment selectors directly to the fragment or csv functions in Text::CSV_XS versions before 1.65. Monitor vendor advisories for updates and apply patches once available.
