CVE-2026-110845: External Control of System or Configuration Setting in n8n-io n8n
Description
CVE-2026-110845 is a high-severity code execution vulnerability in the n8n automation tool affecting versions before 1.123.83, 2.x before 2.41.4, and 2.42.x before 2.42.1. The flaw exists in the Git node Log operation, which does not properly strip a repository's local git configuration before running an external program. Authenticated users with permission to configure the node can exploit this to execute arbitrary code as the n8n process user.

Technical Analysis
The vulnerability CVE-2026-110845 in n8n allows authenticated users with limited privileges to execute arbitrary code via the Git node Log operation. This occurs because the node fails to sanitize the local git configuration of a repository before invoking external programs. By pointing the node to a repository whose local git configuration they control, attackers can execute commands with the permissions of the n8n process user. This affects versions prior to 1.123.83, 2.0.0 up to but not including 2.41.4, and 2.42.0 up to but not including 2.42.1.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation allows authenticated users with permission to configure the Git node to execute arbitrary code on the host running n8n, potentially leading to full system compromise under the n8n process user context. This elevates the risk of unauthorized actions within the environment where n8n is deployed.
Mitigation Recommendations
A fix is available in n8n versions 1.123.83, 2.41.4, and 2.42.1 and later. Users should upgrade to these versions or later to remediate this vulnerability. No additional mitigation guidance is provided in the vendor advisory. Patch status is confirmed by the version ranges indicating fixed versions.
