Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: n8n-io
Product: n8n

Description

CVE-2026-110846 is a high-severity vulnerability in n8n versions before 2.41.4 and in 2.42.x before 2.42.1. It involves a signature bypass in the waiting-webhook endpoint due to improper ordering of validation and canonicalization steps. Attackers with an execution's resume token can approve waiting executions intended for others, potentially executing downstream actions with the workflow owner's credentials, including command execution.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in n8n arises from the waiting-webhook endpoint performing Send-and-Wait validation before normalizing an alternate node reference form. This incorrect order allows attackers possessing a resume token for an execution to bypass signature validation and approve executions meant for other users. Consequently, attackers can run downstream workflow actions under the workflow owner's privileges, which may include executing commands. The affected versions are n8n prior to 2.41.4 and versions 2.42.0 up to but not including 2.42.1.

Potential Impact

An attacker who obtains a resume token for an execution can bypass signature validation and approve executions intended for other users. This enables the attacker to execute downstream actions with the workflow owner's credentials, potentially leading to unauthorized command execution within the affected system. The vulnerability could allow privilege escalation and unauthorized workflow manipulation.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in n8n versions 2.41.4 and 2.42.1. Users should upgrade to these or later versions to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the official patches.
