Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: n8n-io
Product: n8n

Description

CVE-2026-110847 is a stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in n8n versions before 1.123.83, 2.x before 2.41.4, and 2.42.x before 2.42.1. The flaw exists in the Chat Trigger hosted-chat page where customCss values are not properly sanitized and are injected as markup. This allows workflow authors to publish chats without user authentication, potentially executing malicious payloads in the context of signed-in users' sessions.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in n8n involves improper neutralization of input during web page generation, specifically in the Chat Trigger hosted-chat page. Unsanitized customCss values are interpolated directly into the page markup, enabling stored cross-site scripting attacks. This can be exploited by workflow authors who can publish chats without requiring n8n user authentication, causing malicious scripts to execute on the instance origin and act on sessions of signed-in visitors.

Potential Impact

An attacker can execute arbitrary scripts in the context of authenticated users' sessions on the affected n8n instance. This can lead to session hijacking or unauthorized actions performed on behalf of signed-in users. The vulnerability is rated with a CVSS 4.0 score of 7 (high severity), indicating significant risk if exploited.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in n8n versions 1.123.83, 2.41.4, and 2.42.1 and later. Users should upgrade to these versions or later to remediate the vulnerability. There is no indication that this vulnerability is mitigated by configuration or other means; patching is the recommended action.
