Published: 10/15/2026 (10/15/2026, 13:07:57 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Red Hat
Product: Red Hat Hardened Images

Description

A flaw was found in OpenSSH. After compression is negotiated, a compressed payload can expand past the maximum supported packet size because the inflate loop does not stop at that limit. Memory use grows in the process handling that connection.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability in OpenSSH occurs after compression negotiation, where the inflate loop processing compressed payloads does not enforce the maximum packet size limit. As a result, a compressed payload can expand beyond the expected size, leading to uncontrolled memory allocation growth in the process handling the SSH connection. This flaw could potentially cause resource exhaustion but does not impact confidentiality or integrity.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability can cause increased memory consumption on the affected system, potentially leading to denial of service conditions due to resource exhaustion. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity of data. No known exploits are reported in the wild.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the Red Hat advisory at https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-110927 for current remediation guidance. Until a patch is available, consider limiting exposure of affected services and monitoring resource usage.
