Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-110956 describes an improper authentication vulnerability (CWE-287) in the asVereinbase WordPress plugin before version 1.1.8. The vulnerability arises because the plugin treats an empty stored authentication value as a valid match, bypassing password and second-factor authentication requirements. This enables an attacker without credentials to authenticate as any user, including those with administrative privileges.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated attacker can gain unauthorized access to any user account, including administrator accounts, potentially leading to full site compromise, data exposure, or site manipulation.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade the asVereinbase plugin to version 1.1.8 or later, where this authentication flaw is fixed. No other mitigation guidance is provided. Patch status is not explicitly stated but the version range indicates the issue is fixed starting from 1.1.8.
