Published: 10/19/2026 (10/19/2026, 15:42:24 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: anshupriyan
Product: cli-bridge

Description

CLI Bridge provides filesystem access within a workspace root. Prior to 0.0.2, a dangling symlink pointing outside the workspace root bypasses resolveSafePath when fs.realpathSync throws ENOENT for a nonexistent target. The fallback resolves only the parent directory and returns the symlink path as safe, so write_file follows the link and can write arbitrary files outside the workspace root. This issue is fixed in version 0.0.2.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in anshupriyan cli-bridge versions before 0.0.2 arises from improper handling of dangling symbolic links during filesystem access within a workspace root. When fs.realpathSync throws ENOENT for a nonexistent target, the fallback mechanism only resolves the parent directory and incorrectly treats the symlink path as safe. Consequently, the write_file function follows the symlink and can write files outside the workspace root, leading to potential unauthorized file modification. This flaw is classified under CWE-59 (Improper Link Resolution Before File Access). The issue is resolved in version 0.0.2.

Potential Impact

An attacker can exploit this vulnerability to write arbitrary files outside the workspace root directory, potentially overwriting critical system or application files. This could lead to unauthorized modification of files, impacting system integrity. The CVSS 3.1 score is 7.5 (high severity) with no confidentiality or availability impact but with high integrity impact.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade to anshupriyan cli-bridge version 0.0.2 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation is indicated by the vendor advisory.
