CVE-2026-111061: CWE-770: Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling in Eugeny russh
Description
russh is a Rust SSH client and server library that includes an SSH agent protocol implementation. Prior to 0.64.1, the agent server spawns a separate long-lived task for every SSH_AGENT_CONSTRAIN_LIFETIME record in a constrained add-key request. The loop accepts repeated lifetime records, clones the key blob into each task, and does not roll back tasks when later constraint parsing fails. An attacker that can speak the agent protocol locally or through agent forwarding can exhaust memory and tasks until the agent process is starved or terminated, denying SSH agent service. This issue is fixed in version 0.64.1.

Technical Analysis
The russh library versions before 0.64.1 contain a vulnerability classified as CWE-770 (Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling). Specifically, the SSH agent server spawns a long-lived task for each SSH_AGENT_CONSTRAIN_LIFETIME record in a constrained add-key request. The server accepts repeated lifetime records and clones the key blob into each task. If later constraint parsing fails, the server does not roll back these tasks, leading to resource exhaustion. An attacker able to communicate with the agent protocol locally or via agent forwarding can exploit this to exhaust memory and tasks, resulting in denial of service of the SSH agent. This issue is resolved in version 0.64.1.
Potential Impact
An attacker with local access or through SSH agent forwarding can cause the SSH agent process to exhaust memory and task resources, leading to denial of service by starving or terminating the agent process. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity, only availability is affected.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade to russh version 0.64.1 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation is indicated or required.
