Until a fix is available, avoid processing untrusted .mesh files, especially those containing morph animation tracks targeting submeshes or shared geometry.

Description

A NULL pointer dereference vulnerability exists in Open Asset Import Library (assimp) up to version 6.0.5. The flaw occurs in the Ogre3D binary mesh importer's handling of morph animation tracks that target missing submeshes or absent shared geometry. An attacker can craft a malicious .mesh file to trigger a crash of the host process.
