CVE-2026-111136: Out-of-bounds Write in swami libinstpatch
Description
libInstPatch through 1.1.7 contains a heap out-of-bounds write vulnerability in the SoundFont 2 loader because ipatch_sf2_gen_is_valid() does not range-check generator IDs before the validity mask test. Attackers can supply crafted SF2 files with out-of-range pgen or igen generator IDs to write attacker-chosen values past the zone genarray, corrupting heap memory and crashing Swami or other consumers.

Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-111136 is a heap out-of-bounds write vulnerability in libInstPatch through version 1.1.7. The flaw exists in the SoundFont 2 loader where the ipatch_sf2_gen_is_valid() function does not validate generator IDs against expected ranges before applying a validity mask. An attacker can exploit this by supplying specially crafted SF2 files containing out-of-range pgen or igen generator IDs, leading to writes beyond the allocated zone genarray. This results in heap corruption and potential crashes of Swami or other consumers of libInstPatch.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation can cause heap memory corruption and application crashes in software using libInstPatch, such as Swami. There is no indication of privilege escalation or remote code execution. The vulnerability requires local access with user interaction (UI required) and has limited attack vector (local).
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a patch is available, avoid processing untrusted or malicious SF2 files with libInstPatch to mitigate risk.
