Vendor/Project: sezero
Product: libtimidity

Description

CVE-2026-111154 is a stack out-of-bounds write vulnerability in libTiMidity version 0.2.8 within the SoundFont loader. It occurs due to unchecked generator operators in the parse_gen function, allowing crafted .sf2 files with out-of-range operator values to corrupt stack memory. This can cause crashes and memory corruption.

Technical Analysis

libTiMidity through version 0.2.8 contains a stack out-of-bounds write vulnerability in the SoundFont loader component. The flaw arises from insufficient validation of pgen/igen operator values in the parse_gen function. An attacker can supply a specially crafted .sf2 file with out-of-range operator values, leading to writes of chosen 16-bit values near the stack Layer object. This results in stack memory corruption and potential application crashes.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation can cause stack memory corruption and application crashes. The vulnerability requires local access (AV:L) and user interaction (UI:P), with no privileges required (PR:N). It has a medium severity with a CVSS 4.0 base score of 6.9. There are no known exploits in the wild.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or patch links are currently provided. Until a patch is available, avoid processing untrusted or maliciously crafted .sf2 files to mitigate risk.
