Published: 10/15/2026 (10/15/2026, 21:43:23 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: dragonflydb
Product: dragonfly

Description

DragonflyDB versions up to 2.0.2 have a vulnerability where unauthenticated clients can cause unbounded memory allocation by passing a negative COUNT parameter to certain commands. This can exhaust system memory and trigger the out-of-memory (OOM) killer, terminating the database instance and disrupting service for all clients.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-111279 describes an unbounded memory allocation vulnerability in DragonflyDB through version 2.0.2. The flaw occurs when unauthenticated clients issue HRANDFIELD, ZRANDMEMBER, or SRANDMEMBER commands with a negative COUNT value. This negative COUNT leads to excessive memory allocation attempts, which can exhaust system memory and cause the OOM killer to terminate the DragonflyDB process, resulting in denial of service.

Potential Impact

An attacker can cause a denial of service by sending a single malicious command with a large negative COUNT value to a key containing one element. This triggers excessive memory allocation, exhausting system memory and causing the DragonflyDB instance to be terminated, disrupting availability for all clients.

Mitigation Recommendations

No vendor advisory or patch information is provided. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict access to DragonflyDB instances to trusted clients and monitor for anomalous commands with negative COUNT values.
