Published: 10/15/2026 (10/15/2026, 21:43:24 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: davenardella
Product: snap7

Description

snap7 versions up to and including 1.4.3 have an out-of-bounds write vulnerability in the TSnap7MicroClient::opReadArea() function. This flaw allows malicious or impersonated S7 peers to overflow client buffers by exploiting an unchecked DataLength field in ReadVar responses. The vulnerability can cause memory corruption and crashes in SCADA, HMI, or gateway processes that use snap7.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-111280 is an out-of-bounds write vulnerability in snap7 through version 1.4.3, specifically in the TSnap7MicroClient::opReadArea() method. Malicious S7 peers can send crafted ReadVar responses with a DataLength field that is unchecked, leading to memcpy operations of up to 65535 bytes into client buffers. This buffer overflow can crash critical industrial control system components such as SCADA, HMI, or gateway processes and cause memory corruption.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows a remote attacker, without privileges or user interaction, to cause denial of service by crashing SCADA, HMI, or gateway processes. It also risks memory corruption, which could potentially lead to further instability or exploitation in affected systems.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance.
