Vendor/Project: Jooan
Product: JA-A12

Description

Jooan JA-A12 IP cameras with firmware versions 009_20171107 and 05.02.31.105 have a critical remote code execution vulnerability. This flaw arises from hard-coded credentials that allow unauthenticated attackers to execute root commands by sending crafted requests to the device's diagnostic interface. Successful exploitation grants full control over the affected device.

Technical Analysis

The Jooan JA-A12 IP cameras running firmware 009_20171107 and 05.02.31.105 contain a remote code execution vulnerability due to the use of hard-coded credentials. Attackers can send a specially crafted HTTP request with the parameter singleCMD=SetDiagMode to the endpoint /goform/SingleHandlebyCommand, including attacker-controlled authserverip and authcode values. This causes the jooandiag daemon to execute arbitrary commands via /bin/sh with root privileges, leading to full device compromise.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated attacker can remotely execute arbitrary root commands on affected Jooan JA-A12 IP cameras, resulting in complete control over the device. This can lead to device manipulation, data interception, or use of the device as a foothold in a network.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict network access to the affected devices and monitor for suspicious activity targeting the diagnostic interface.
