Published: 10/15/2026 (10/15/2026, 21:43:26 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: driftregion
Product: iso14229

Description

An integer wraparound vulnerability exists in driftregion iso14229 versions before 0.10.1 in the Handle_0x38_RequestFileTransfer function. This flaw allows unauthenticated attackers to bypass file path length checks by sending a specially crafted RequestFileTransfer request with an abnormally large filePathAndNameLength value. Exploitation can lead to reading beyond the receive buffer, potentially causing crashes or memory disclosure.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-111282 describes an integer overflow or wraparound in the driftregion iso14229 library prior to version 0.10.1. The vulnerability occurs in the Handle_0x38_RequestFileTransfer function, where an attacker can send a RequestFileTransfer (SID 0x38) request with a filePathAndNameLength field set to a value between 0xFFFC and 0xFFFF. This causes the length check to be bypassed due to integer wraparound, leading to callbacks reading past the allocated receive buffer. The result can be a crash or unauthorized memory disclosure. The vulnerability requires no authentication and has a CVSS 4.0 score of 8.8, indicating high severity.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows unauthenticated attackers to bypass file path length validation, causing out-of-bounds reads beyond the receive buffer. This can lead to application crashes (denial of service) or disclosure of sensitive memory contents, potentially exposing confidential information.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fixed version 0.10.1 or later is available that addresses this integer wraparound vulnerability. Users should upgrade to version 0.10.1 or later to remediate this issue. No other mitigation guidance is provided or necessary.
