Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-111626 describes a critical authentication bypass vulnerability in Webreaper Damselfly through version 4.5.3. The issue arises because controller authorization attributes are commented out, enabling unauthenticated attackers to access all API endpoints under /api/*. Specifically, attackers can send PUT requests to /api/users with Admin roles to create new administrator accounts or POST requests to /api/users to reset any user's password. This flaw allows attackers to gain full control over the affected system.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability enables unauthenticated attackers to bypass authentication controls entirely, granting them administrative privileges and full control over the application. This can lead to unauthorized account creation, password resets, and complete compromise of the affected system.

Mitigation Recommendations

No patch links or vendor advisories are provided in the input data. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict access to the affected API endpoints and monitor for suspicious activity if possible.
