Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-111897 is an authorization bypass vulnerability in phpMyFAQ affecting versions >=4.2.0-alpha and <4.2.0-beta. The vulnerability permits category-restricted editors to circumvent access controls by supplying arbitrary record or attachment IDs, enabling them to manage attachments of FAQs outside their permitted categories. This allows attackers with medium-level permissions to upload or delete attachments on unauthorized FAQ entries, violating intended access restrictions.

Potential Impact

Attackers with medium permission levels can bypass category-based authorization controls to upload or delete attachments associated with FAQs outside their authorized categories. This could lead to unauthorized modification or removal of files, potentially impacting data integrity and availability of FAQ attachments.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict editor permissions carefully and monitor for unauthorized attachment modifications. Avoid granting medium permission mode users unnecessary access to attachment management functions.
