Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-111898 is an authentication bypass vulnerability in phpMyFAQ affecting versions >=4.2.0-alpha and <4.2.0-beta. The vulnerability arises because Keycloak users can take over local accounts if their Keycloak preferred_username or email collides with those of local accounts. Attackers controlling such Keycloak identities can authenticate via /auth/keycloak/authorize, binding their subject to the local account and escalating privileges to superadmin.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an attacker with a controlled Keycloak identity to bypass normal authentication controls and gain superadmin privileges on phpMyFAQ. This could lead to full administrative control over the affected phpMyFAQ instance.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict or monitor Keycloak integration and carefully validate Keycloak user attributes to prevent account takeover via username or email collisions.
