Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: thorsten
Product: phpMyFAQ

Description

phpMyFAQ versions from 4.2.0-alpha up to but not including 4.2.0-beta contain an information disclosure vulnerability. This flaw allows unauthenticated attackers to access hidden open questions and associated usernames via the /api/v4.0/open-questions endpoint due to an inverted check in the OpenQuestionController. Technical Analysis

phpMyFAQ 4.2.0-alpha through versions before 4.2.0-beta have an information disclosure vulnerability caused by an inverted api.onlyPublicQuestions check in the OpenQuestionController. This allows unauthenticated attackers to send GET requests to the /api/v4.0/open-questions API endpoint and retrieve hidden open questions, including non-public moderation or internal questions and their associated usernames, which should be restricted from public access.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability permits unauthorized disclosure of sensitive information, specifically non-public questions and usernames, to unauthenticated attackers. This could lead to privacy violations and potential exposure of internal moderation content, but does not involve privilege escalation or code execution.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict access to the /api/v4.0/open-questions endpoint or implement additional access controls to prevent unauthenticated access to non-public questions.
