Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-111910 is an authorization bypass vulnerability in the phpMyFAQ software affecting versions prior to 4.1.9 and versions from 4.2.0-alpha up to but not including 4.2.0-beta. The vulnerability exists in attachment.php and permits attackers with limited privileges or anonymous users (under certain configuration) to access and download attachments tied to restricted FAQs without proper authorization. This bypasses per-record permission enforcement, exposing potentially confidential files.
Potential Impact
Attackers with low privileges or anonymous users (if allowDownloadsForGuests is enabled) can retrieve confidential attachments from restricted FAQs, potentially leading to unauthorized disclosure of sensitive information. The vulnerability has a CVSS v4.0 score of 7.1, indicating a high severity impact primarily due to unauthorized data access over the network without user interaction.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, administrators should consider disabling the allowDownloadsForGuests setting if enabled and restrict the dlattachment right to trusted users only to mitigate unauthorized access risks.
