CVE-2026-111924: Improper Handling of Highly Compressed Data (Data Amplification) in fleetdm fleet
Description
Fleet versions prior to 4.83.0 have a denial of service vulnerability caused by improper handling of gzip-compressed request bodies. Unauthenticated attackers can send small, highly compressed requests to unauthenticated endpoints, which expand during decompression and exhaust server memory, leading to a crash of the Fleet instance.

Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-111924 describes a denial of service vulnerability in fleetdm's Fleet product before version 4.83.0. The flaw arises from the improper handling of gzip-compressed HTTP request bodies. Attackers can exploit this by sending small, highly compressed payloads with the Content-Encoding: gzip header to unauthenticated endpoints. When the server decompresses these payloads, the data expands significantly, consuming excessive memory and causing the server to crash. This vulnerability requires no authentication and has a CVSS 4.0 base score of 8.7, indicating high severity.
Potential Impact
An unauthenticated attacker can cause a denial of service by exhausting the server's memory resources, resulting in a crash of the Fleet instance. This disrupts availability but does not require user privileges or authentication.
Mitigation Recommendations
A fix is available in Fleet version 4.83.0 and later. Users should upgrade to version 4.83.0 or newer to remediate this vulnerability. No other mitigation guidance is provided or required.
