CVE-2026-112005: Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal') in clidey whodb
Description
WhoDB versions from 0.104.0 up to but not including 0.135.0 contain a critical path traversal vulnerability. This flaw allows remote attackers to read and write arbitrary files on the host by leveraging DuckDB filesystem functions via the query editor without needing credentials. Exploitation can lead to theft of sensitive files such as session keys and stored database credentials or overwriting files on the system.

Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-112005 describes a path traversal vulnerability in WhoDB versions >=0.104.0 and <0.135.0. Attackers can exploit DuckDB filesystem functions (e.g., read_text, read_blob, COPY ... TO, ATTACH) through the query editor to access or modify arbitrary files on the host system. No authentication is required to log in to a DuckDB file, enabling unauthorized file read/write operations including stealing session keys and database credentials.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation allows remote attackers to read and write arbitrary files on the host system, potentially leading to disclosure of sensitive information such as session keys and stored database credentials, as well as unauthorized file modification. This can compromise the confidentiality and integrity of the affected system.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict access to the query editor interface to trusted users only and monitor for suspicious activity related to DuckDB filesystem functions.
