Published: 10/18/2026 (10/18/2026, 12:30:27 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: True Audio
Product: libtta

Description

A divide-by-zero vulnerability exists in libtta through version 2.3 in the function tta_decoder_init_get_info(). This flaw allows attackers to crash applications by providing a specially crafted .tta audio file with a zero sample rate, causing a SIGFPE signal. The vulnerability affects the bundled tta console tool and potentially other applications using libtta. The issue has a medium severity rating with a CVSS score of 6.8.

Technical Analysis

libtta versions up to and including 2.3 contain a divide-by-zero vulnerability in the tta_decoder_init_get_info() function. An attacker can craft a .tta file with an unvalidated zero sample rate and a recomputed header CRC32 to trigger a SIGFPE (floating point exception), causing the application to crash. This vulnerability affects applications using libtta, including the bundled tta console tool.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation results in application crashes due to a divide-by-zero error, leading to denial of service. There is no indication of code execution or data corruption beyond crashing the affected application. The vulnerability requires user interaction (opening a crafted .tta file) and local access to the vulnerable application.

Mitigation Recommendations

No patch or official fix is currently documented. Users should avoid opening untrusted or suspicious .tta files to prevent triggering the vulnerability. Monitor vendor advisories for updates regarding a fix or mitigation. Since this is a local application vulnerability, restricting access to untrusted files is recommended.
