Published: 10/18/2026 (10/18/2026, 15:30:31 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: wvWare
Product: wv

Description

wvWare wv versions up to 1.2.9 contain a heap-based out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the wvGetSTSH function within stylesheet.c. This flaw allows attackers to crash applications by supplying specially crafted Word documents with ten or fewer styles or out-of-range style base indexes, leading to reading beyond heap arrays. The vulnerability affects applications such as AbiWord that use wvWare for processing Word files.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-112056 is a heap-based out-of-bounds read vulnerability in wvWare wv through version 1.2.9. The issue exists in the wvGetSTSH function in stylesheet.c, where attackers can craft Word documents with a limited number of styles or invalid style base indexes to cause the application to read beyond allocated heap memory. This can result in application crashes, impacting software that relies on wvWare for Word document processing, including AbiWord.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows attackers to cause denial of service by crashing affected applications through crafted Word documents. There is no indication of code execution or data disclosure from the provided information. The impact is limited to application crashes (denial of service).

Mitigation Recommendations

No patch or official fix information is provided in the available data. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, users should avoid opening untrusted Word documents with affected versions of wvWare or applications that embed it.
