Vendor/Project: Red Hat
Product: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10

Description

CVE-2026-112214 is a medium severity vulnerability in the GStreamer ASF demuxer component of gst-plugins-ugly on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10. It involves improper handling of an attacker-controlled entry count used for heap memory allocation when parsing Simple Index objects in ASF, WMV, or WMA files. This can lead to excessive memory allocation requests, potentially causing denial of service if the allocation fails or system memory is constrained.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability arises from the GStreamer ASF demuxer in gst-plugins-ugly where the entry count from a Simple Index object is used directly to size a heap allocation without validation against the actual payload size. An attacker can craft ASF, WMV, or WMA files with manipulated entry counts to trigger very large memory allocation requests. If the system cannot fulfill these requests, it may result in denial of service due to memory exhaustion or allocation failure.

Potential Impact

The impact is denial of service (DoS) caused by excessive memory allocation requests when processing specially crafted media files. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity, and no known exploits in the wild have been reported.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the Red Hat advisory at https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-112214 for current remediation guidance. Until a patch is applied, avoid processing untrusted ASF, WMV, or WMA files with vulnerable versions of gst-plugins-ugly.
