Published: 10/19/2026 (10/19/2026, 13:55:19 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: emersion
Product: libdisplay-info

Description

libdisplay-info through 0.4.0 contains a heap out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the DisplayID v1 section parser in displayid.c that occurs when a data block's declared length exceeds the section. Attackers can supply a crafted EDID from a malicious monitor, KVM, capture device, or EDID file to make is_all_zeroes read past the buffer, causing a possible crash.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-112271 is a heap out-of-bounds read vulnerability in libdisplay-info through version 0.4.0. The flaw exists in the DisplayID v1 section parser within displayid.c, where the function is_all_zeroes reads beyond the buffer if a data block's declared length is larger than the section size. An attacker can exploit this by supplying a maliciously crafted EDID from a monitor, KVM, capture device, or EDID file, leading to a possible crash of the affected software.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability can cause a heap out-of-bounds read, which may lead to application crashes. There is no indication of code execution or data corruption beyond the crash. The attack vector requires local access or user interaction with a crafted EDID source.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, avoid using untrusted or malicious EDID data sources to prevent triggering the vulnerability.
