Published: 10/19/2026 (10/19/2026, 13:55:28 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: xqq
Product: libaribcaption

Description

libaribcaption versions 1.1.0 through 1.1.2 have an out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the DecoderImpl::HandleGLGR() function. This flaw occurs because the code reads past the 78-entry kLatinSpecialTable without proper upper bound checks when processing crafted captions. Exploitation can lead to information disclosure of adjacent read-only memory or cause a crash during decoding.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-112284 describes a global out-of-bounds read in libaribcaption versions 1.1.0 through 1.1.2 within the DecoderImpl::HandleGLGR() function. The vulnerability arises from reading beyond the bounds of the kLatinSpecialTable (which has 78 entries) without verifying upper limits. An attacker can craft captions that specify the Latin special set using the ESC 28 4C sequence followed by bytes in the range 0x6F to 0x7E to trigger this out-of-bounds read. This can result in leaking adjacent read-only data or cause the decoder to crash.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows an attacker to cause an out-of-bounds read, potentially leaking adjacent read-only memory contents or causing a denial of service via a crash. The CVSS 4.0 base score is 4.8 (medium severity), reflecting local attack vector with low complexity and no privileges required, but requiring user interaction. There is no indication of remote exploitation or privilege escalation.

Mitigation Recommendations

No patch or official fix is currently documented for this vulnerability. Users should monitor the vendor's advisory for updates. Until a fix is available, avoid processing untrusted or crafted captions that may trigger this vulnerability.
