Upgrade GFI KerioConnect Outlook Connector (Offline Edition) to version 10.0.9 Patch 2 or later, where the installer permissions have been corrected to prevent unauthorized modification of the product directory. No other mitigation is indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
GFI KerioConnect Outlook Connector (Offline Edition) versions before 10.0.9 Patch 2 have a local privilege escalation vulnerability due to weak installer permissions. The product directory is writable by the built-in Users group, allowing a local non-administrative attacker to replace the searchd.exe service binary. This service runs with LocalSystem privileges, enabling arbitrary code execution with NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM privileges upon service restart or system reboot. The issue is fixed in version 10.0.9 Patch 2.
