Published: 10/19/2026 (10/19/2026, 15:29:00 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: micromatch
Product: picomatch

Description

Picomatch through 4.0.7 contains a regular expression denial of service vulnerability that allows attackers to block the event loop by supplying single-branch repeated extglob patterns. Attackers can provide globs like +(*) or +(*a), which analyzeRepeatedExtglob in lib/parse.js skips, causing exponential backtracking against short crafted strings and denying service to Node.js applications.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-112366 affects picomatch through version 4.0.7. The vulnerability arises from inefficient handling of certain extglob patterns such as +(*) or +(*a) in the lib/parse.js file, specifically in the analyzeRepeatedExtglob function which skips these patterns. This leads to exponential backtracking on short crafted strings, enabling an attacker to cause a denial of service by blocking the Node.js event loop.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation results in denial of service by blocking the Node.js event loop, potentially causing application unavailability. The vulnerability does not require privileges, user interaction, or authentication, and can be triggered remotely by supplying malicious glob patterns.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, avoid processing untrusted input containing repeated extglob patterns such as +(*) or +(*a).
