Published: 10/21/2026 (10/21/2026, 19:20:38 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Apache Software Foundation
Product: Apache Traffic Server

Description

Apache Traffic Server versions 9.2.15, 10.1.4, and 10.2.0 contain a null pointer dereference vulnerability that can cause the server to crash. This occurs when a client POST request is half-closed while a chunked origin response is being reparsed during a reentrant write-ready callback, a timing-dependent race condition introduced by prior flow-control backports. Upgrading to versions 9.2.16, 10.1.5, or 10.2.1 resolves this issue.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-112381 is a null pointer dereference vulnerability in Apache Traffic Server triggered by a timing-dependent race condition. Specifically, the issue arises when a client POST request is torn down via half-close concurrently with the reparsing of a chunked origin response in a reentrant write-ready callback. This flaw was introduced by backported flow-control changes from CVE-2021-32564. Affected versions are 9.2.15, 10.1.4, and 10.2.0. The vulnerability can cause the server to crash, impacting availability. Fixed versions are 9.2.16, 10.1.5, and 10.2.1.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability results in a denial of service condition due to a null pointer dereference crash in Apache Traffic Server. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity. The CVSS v3.1 base score is 5.9 (medium severity), reflecting network attack vector, high attack complexity, no privileges required, no user interaction, and impact limited to availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade Apache Traffic Server to versions 9.2.16, 10.1.5, or 10.2.1 to remediate this vulnerability. No other mitigations are indicated or required.
