Technical Analysis
Xen Orchestra prior to version 6.9.0 contains an authorization bypass vulnerability in the xo-server user.set API method. This flaw permits low-privileged authenticated users to supply arbitrary target user IDs to modify other users' preferences. Exploitation can result in deletion of the preferences.otp TOTP secret, disabling two-factor authentication, corruption of the TOTP secret to block logins, or overwriting stored xsCredentials and sshKeys, thereby compromising user account security.
Potential Impact
The vulnerability allows attackers with low privileges to bypass authorization controls and modify sensitive user preferences of other accounts. This includes disabling two-factor authentication by deleting TOTP secrets, corrupting TOTP secrets to prevent login, and overwriting stored credentials such as xsCredentials and sshKeys. Such actions can weaken account security and potentially lead to unauthorized access or denial of service for affected users.
Mitigation Recommendations
A fix is available in Xen Orchestra version 6.9.0. Users should upgrade to version 6.9.0 or later to remediate this vulnerability. No vendor advisory content was provided to indicate alternative mitigations or temporary fixes.
