Published: 08/04/2026 (08/04/2026, 06:00:09 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Product: MonsterInsights

Description

CVE-2026-11366 is a low-severity vulnerability in the MonsterInsights WordPress plugin versions before 11.1.0. It involves improper authentication due to incorrect validation of the signature on an unauthenticated AJAX action. When the plugin is not connected to Google Analytics, the HMAC signing key is empty, allowing unauthenticated attackers to forge a valid signature and overwrite a configuration value. This disrupts server-side analytics in Manual GA4 mode.

Technical Analysis

The MonsterInsights WordPress plugin prior to version 11.1.0 fails to properly validate the signature on one of its unauthenticated AJAX actions. Specifically, if the plugin is not connected to Google Analytics, the HMAC signing key used for signature validation is empty. This flaw allows unauthenticated attackers to forge a valid signature and overwrite a configuration value in the plugin, which can disrupt the plugin's server-side analytics functionality when operating in Manual GA4 mode.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to modify a configuration value in the MonsterInsights plugin, potentially disrupting server-side analytics data collection in Manual GA4 mode. There is no impact on confidentiality or availability, and the integrity impact is limited to the plugin's configuration. No known exploits are reported in the wild.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, users should monitor vendor communications for updates and consider disabling Manual GA4 mode if feasible to reduce risk.
