Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: apostrophecms
Product: apostrophe

Description

ApostropheCMS versions prior to 3.7.0 of the import-export module contain a path traversal vulnerability (CWE-22) that allows an authenticated user to submit a tar entry targeting a directory in a way that bypasses parent-path substring checks. This causes an unhandled filesystem error that can terminate the Node.js process. The issue is fixed in version 3.7.0.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-113664 describes a path traversal vulnerability in ApostropheCMS's import-export module before version 3.7.0. An authenticated importer can craft a tar entry whose normalized destination points to a directory, bypassing the intended parent-path substring guard. When the system attempts to open this directory as a write stream, it triggers an unhandled filesystem error that can crash the Node.js process. The vulnerability does not enable a full exploit such as arbitrary file read or write but can cause denial of service by process termination. The issue is resolved in version 3.7.0.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability can cause denial of service by terminating the Node.js process running ApostropheCMS when processing malicious tar entries. There is no evidence of arbitrary file read or write or other escalations. No known exploits are reported in the wild.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade the import-export module to version 3.7.0 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation is indicated or required.
