Technical Analysis
odf-kit, a TypeScript/JavaScript library for handling OpenDocument Format files, improperly neutralizes input in inline CSS style attributes during HTML rendering. While text content and many attributes are escaped, style-related attributes such as fo:color, fo:background-color, fo:text-shadow, and others are copied verbatim into style attributes without escaping. This allows injection of malicious HTML or JavaScript via crafted style values, leading to a cross-site scripting vulnerability. The flaw affects versions from 0.10.0 up to but excluding 0.14.2, with a patch applied in 0.14.2 to address the issue.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary scripts in the context of the victim's browser, potentially leading to information disclosure and limited integrity impact. The CVSS 3.1 score is 6.1 (medium severity), reflecting network attack vector, low attack complexity, no privileges required, user interaction required, and partial confidentiality and integrity impact.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade to odf-kit version 0.14.2 or later, which contains the official fix for this vulnerability. No other mitigations are specified or necessary once patched.
