CVE-2026-114088: Use of Hard-coded Credentials in triggerdotdev trigger.dev
Description
Trigger.dev versions before 4.5.4 contain a vulnerability due to a hardcoded default secret in the /coordinator Socket.IO namespace. This allows unauthenticated attackers to connect using the published coordinator-secret value. Exploitation can lead to retrieval of decrypted run environment variables and tampering with arbitrary runs via specific event emissions.

Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-114088 describes a hardcoded default secret vulnerability in trigger.dev prior to version 4.5.4. The flaw exists in the /coordinator Socket.IO namespace, where an attacker can connect without authentication by using the known coordinator-secret. Once connected, the attacker can emit the READY_FOR_EXECUTION event to obtain decrypted run environment variables or send events like TASK_RUN_FAILED_TO_RUN to interfere with task executions. This vulnerability allows unauthorized access and manipulation of sensitive runtime data and task flows.
Potential Impact
The vulnerability enables unauthenticated attackers to access sensitive decrypted environment variables and manipulate task execution flows within trigger.dev. This could lead to exposure of secrets and disruption or tampering of automated runs, impacting confidentiality and integrity of the affected system.
Mitigation Recommendations
An official fix is available in trigger.dev version 4.5.4 and later. Users should upgrade to version 4.5.4 or newer to remediate this vulnerability. No other mitigation guidance is provided or required as the patch addresses the issue directly.
