CVE-2026-114099: Improper Input Validation in corazawaf coraza
Description
Coraza versions from 3.0.0 up to but not including 3.8.1 contain an improper input validation vulnerability in their JSON body processor. This processor flattens nested JSON properties into dot-separated ARGS_POST names without escaping literal dots, causing distinct properties to collide. An unauthenticated attacker can exploit this by adding a dotted property such as account.role that overwrites a nested value, potentially hiding SQL injection payloads from OWASP CRS rules while still delivering them to the backend.

Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-114099 affects Coraza WAF versions >=3.0.0 and <3.8.1. The vulnerability arises because the JSON body processor flattens nested JSON properties into dot-separated ARGS_POST keys without escaping literal dots. This leads to collisions between distinct properties. An attacker can exploit this by injecting a dotted property that overwrites a nested value, effectively bypassing OWASP CRS detection of SQL injection payloads while the backend still receives the malicious input.
Potential Impact
The vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to bypass OWASP Core Rule Set (CRS) protections against SQL injection by exploiting property name collisions in the JSON body processor. This can result in SQL injection payloads reaching the backend undetected, increasing the risk of data compromise or unauthorized database access. The CVSS 4.0 base score is 6.9 (medium severity), reflecting network attack vector, no privileges required, no user interaction, and limited impact on integrity.
Mitigation Recommendations
A fix is available in Coraza version 3.8.1 and later. Users should upgrade to version 3.8.1 or newer to remediate this vulnerability. No other vendor advisory or patch information is provided, so patch status is confirmed by the affectedVersions field indicating the fix in 3.8.1.
