Published: 10/21/2026 (10/21/2026, 00:37:15 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: vyperlang
Product: vyper

Description

Vyper versions 0.3.4 through 0.5.0b1 contain a vulnerability in the create_from_blueprint function where an unchecked uint256 subtraction can cause an integer wraparound. This allows an attacker controlling the code_offset parameter to deploy contracts with no runtime code, potentially trapping ETH and tokens.

Technical Analysis

In Vyper versions 0.3.4 through 0.5.0b1, the create_from_blueprint function calculates the remaining blueprint size using uint256 subtraction without verifying that code_offset is less than the blueprint's code size. If code_offset is larger, the subtraction wraps around to a small positive value due to unsigned integer underflow. An attacker who can control code_offset can exploit this to deploy contracts lacking runtime code, which may result in ETH and tokens being trapped in these contracts.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability can cause contracts deployed via the affected create_from_blueprint function to have no runtime code, effectively making them unusable. This can lead to loss or trapping of ETH and tokens sent to these contracts, impacting users who interact with them.
